Day 1: Arrival and Tre Cime

Starting Sunday, June 17th, 2018, Isabella Tabacchi and Daniel Laan will be guiding you across the jagged mountains and into the lush valleys of the Dolomites.

Crags and Glory

We will pick you up from Marco Polo international airport in Venice from 10 in the morning and make our way towards "Middle-Earth" in the afternoon. We plan to get to our first objective before dinner. We check in quickly, because our first workshop starts right at sunset and continues into the night as we set to capture the splendor of the Milky Way.

Day 2: Lagazuoi

We've all had a long yesterday. You'd better enjoy sleeping in this morning, because it's the last opportunity of the tour. After breakfast, we're going straight to our next destination in Passo Falzarego: The cablecar to Lagazuoi at 2,835m. Imagine 360 degree photo opportunity among these mountains. We're taking the time to focus on telephoto images of the mountains at sunset. While some of the purest nights can be enjoyed only meters from your bed, the frequent evening thunderstorms are also an exciting outlook.

Day 3: Post-Processing at Lagazuoi & Cinque Torri from Lagazuoi

It's early day today, because we don't want to miss the appearance of the fabled "sea of clouds". And if the sun comes punching through, Cinue Torri comes alive in the glow of the morning light.

After breakfast, we're spending the rest of the day getting your editing skills to the next level. A brand-spanking new lecture room is in the works at the Lagazuoi hut. You will be one of the first who have had and in-depth look at our full post-processing workflow in this unique location among the clouds. We'll ride one of the last cable cars down and hop on another one to move closer to Alpi di Siusi for sunset and for the night. As the sun sets and the Milky Way rises in the south-east, it's once again time to bump the ISO and enjoy the star-spangled sky with all the skills you've learned in the previous days.

Day 4: Alpi di Siusi

We're exploring the area a bit in the morning of the 4th day around Alpi di Siusi. This is one of those moments that we will teach how to be your own photographer. It's certainly true that there isn't any lack of iconic mountains in these parts, but because of this, it's challenging not to go for easy shots. While we look for immersive flower fields as foreground subjects, our primary objective is to nurture the creative vision you already have instead of copying the shots of others.

We want you to bring new and exciting shots from the Dolomites that have your own mark. We're going to put this approach to the test in one more iconic locations and after popular demand, we're driving towards the most iconic one of them all. Seceda and the Geisler Group.

We're staying in a luxurious hotel that's an hour's walk from the spectacular viewpoint at Seceda. At last, you have your own room and there's even a wellness center to let you enjoy some well-earned relaxation. If you chose to come up to Seceda with us (optional), you're in for a treat at sunset. But be aware that we're doing the same in the morning one last time.

Day 5: Seceda and departure

We're getting up awfully early in the morning for some epic mountain selfies at sunrise. It's 60 minutes to the top and a steep climb, but the terrain is maintained well. We'll say goodbye to this perfect mountain when best light is gone and be back before breakfast.

All things come to an end and unfortunately, so does this our adventure in the Dolomites. We'll drive you to the airport (Marco Polo, near Venice) after breakfast and say goodbye to new friends.

Heralding the Light

We will be staying as a group in traditional mountain huts (1000-2000 meters elevation) for most of the tour. This way, we're putting you right in the heart of the mountains. Most huts are right at the exit of the cable car, but one is an hour walking distance away. On the last day, we're staying in a nice hotel where everybody gets their own room with private amenities.

 Yes. We're actually staying there.

Yes. We're actually staying there.

Physical requirements

Most of our destinations are easily accessible by (cable)car and on foot, but steep terrain and considerable altitude impede your breath. You don’t have to be a marathon runner, but we do ask that you are in reasonable physical condition to be able to keep up with the group.

This is a mountain adventure for beginners, but please do not come on this trip when you have a heart condition, suffer from epilepsy or severe asthma or when you have a bad leg. This will hinder our ability to show you everything we have in store, but more importantly, it will jeopardize the positive experience of your fellow participants.

We aim to teach and shoot during the best light conditions and as much as possible. That includes the periods around sunrise, sunset and when the Milky Way is at its best. You're free to relax in the afternoon, but we're mostly traveling or grocery shopping around noon.

Payment and Reservation

This tour has been fully booked. Check back soon to see if a new Dolomites tour will open up, or choose to come with us on another unforgettable tour.

Cancellation and refunds

Unfortunate things can happen to anyone. Therefore we handle a refund policy when you have made reservations for this tour but can’t make it in the end due to whatever the circumstance. Based on the full fee of the tour, we strictly handle this schedule to cover the costs made on our end.

Cancel 30 days before the start of the tour or more: Full refund minus € 200 service charge.

About the instructors

Isabella is looking forward to guide you to all known and lesser known spots in her hometurf. She wants you to know that she will make it her duty to make your photography grow. Starting with the research of locations, through emphasizing strong foregrounds and all the way to the post-processing stage of landscape photography.

Isabella Tabacchi

Professional landscape photographer based in northern Italy

Photography came to Isabella as suddenly as it did passionately. She has always had a sensibility for natural environments. Exploring and studying the boundless scenery in the Alps, Dolomites and the Lofoten and Canarian Islands, has yielded fantastic images. Her art truly comes alive after the post-processing phase, in which she emphasizes the drama of the natural elements through reliving the emotions she felt at the moment of capture.

Her works have reached massive popularity and critical acclaim. They were exhibited in Rome and Athens and published in online and print magazines like Landscape Photography Magazine, National Geographic, Practical Photography and Digital Photo SLR UK. She also won numerous prizes and we should mention a couple examples. In 2017, Isabella won 2nd prize and five honorable mentions in the Professional Landscapes category of the Monochrome Awards 2016. Recently, she won two honorable mentions in the International Photographer of the Year awards (IPA) and her unforgettable images were published in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year (OPOTY) Annual Book 2016.

Daniel teaches photo workshops on location and at the computer, as post-processing is very much part of the package. He give talks on the art and science of photography and constantly trains to be a better photographer himself, because his motto is that you should never cease to learn.

Daniel Laan

Moody, ominous landscape photography is as much Daniel’s passion as it is his career. For more than a decade now, Daniel has developed a specific style of photography that shows a part of himself through his images. He has an instinct for photogenic weather and has captured the Aurora Borealis succesfully as far south as the Netherlands.

With a degree in design and visual communication and over 15 years of experience in Photoshop, Daniel trains you to look at the landscape differently. He explains everything from pre-visualizing to exporting for the web or for print. The stunning landscape of the Dolomites, you can’t take home with you. However, the most important aspect is not to bag the best locations, but learning to appreciate your surroundings; to become aware of things that others walk straight by.

It is with this mindset that Daniel will make you a better artist; and that’s something you can take home with you.
